Perfectly Popped Homemade Popcorn

Popcorn!

So, popcorn has got to be one of my all-time favorite snacks. I don’t know if it has to do with the fact that I’ve worked at a movie theater for four years (I hate admitting that), or if it is because I have finally learned how to make it at home. This is the right way!

Turns out it is actually very easy, as long as you know what you’re doing. However, homemade popcorn is definitely ten times better than anything that comes out of the microwave. Also, being a vegan, and just trying to eat healthier in general, means no checking the box to see if it has real butter or preservatives in it.

My Method:

So for popping my popcorn I always use coconut oil. I think that this gives it a slightly sweet flavor. There is a high fat content in coconut oil. If you are looking for something other than coconut oil I would go for canola oil. However, I have never used that, and I also definitely would not recommend olive oil or vegetable oil because there is a higher chance of things burning more quickly. It could work, but coconut oil has always been my go-to so that’s what I suggest

It is important to shake your pot gently in order to coat all of the kernels that you put in so that they don’t burn. Once popping gets slower take the pot off the heat immediately. It is better to have a few kernels that didn’t pop rather than burnt popcorn.

Although I only used sea salt and nutritional yeast to top my popcorn you can really use anything you want. Or nothing at all!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the recipe and that all of your popcorn needs are fulfilled!

Recipe Notes

I suggest coconut oil for this recipe, but I've heard canola oil will work.

This should be enough popcorn for two people, unless you are a popcorn fiend like I am.
