Barbecue Cauliflower Wings

I’m finally back!

Recently I have found it very difficult to stay motivated to keep up with anything lately, but I’ve decided to change that! So my goal is to put out a new post every week  I’ll just think of it as my homework for the week, and I’m starting back with a new recipe!

Well enough about me. On to the food!

While in the grocery store this week I impulsively decide to buy some cauliflower, not really knowing what I was going to do with it at the time. As you can see, I decided to make some cauliflower wings.

This isn’t the first time I’ve made cauliflower wings, but it is the first time that I have made my own barbecue sauce. I decided I wanted to try something new. It then occurred to me that I haven’t had anything barbecue since I have been a vegan, which is now almost a year! I searched many different recipes online to see what basic ingredients I would need for the sauce; Who wants to go the lazy route! Surprisingly, most of the recipes that I found contained many of the same ingredients.  I decided to put what I learned together and try and come up with something on my own. Also trying to play it safe because I don’t think I could even remember what good barbecue tasted like!

For this recipe I used ketchup instead of tomato sauce and paste. This was because I didn’t have any, but I did see other recipes that went that route instead if this amount of ketchup scares you.

Also, I mention using a vegan Worcestershire sauce in this recipe. Most in grocery stores contain anchovies which is what doesn’t make it vegan, but if you don’t want to purchase that just for this recipe you can do what I did. Instead, I read that a good substitute is a combination of sugar, soy sauce, lemon juice, and hot sauce. The recipe doesn’t call for too much of this anyway so don’t worry it won’t change anything majorly!

I was very happy with the way the sauce turned out.

It was sticky, sweet, and tasty.  I added a little more spice so that it would have more of a kick, but that’s totally up to you. The wings are best eaten right after they are done and coated in the barbecue sauce. The longer the sauce sits on the wings, obviously they are going to be a bit soggy. However, I did eat these with my husband later in the day for dinner and even though they were softer, I still think they tasted pretty bomb.

Not a long recipe post today, but I’m glad to get back on track. Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know if you make any changes to the recipe!
